New Jersey State Police Seeking Volunteers to Help Search for Missing Man in Jackson Forest

State and county authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating Mortimer Wortman, who was last seen in the Collier Mills Wildlife Management Area in Jackson Township on November 21.

The New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit say Wortman was last observed on foot around 6:00 p.m. near High Bridge Road within the vast wooded preserve.

Investigators are urging hunters, hikers, and anyone who frequents Collier Mills WMA or nearby areas to remain alert for Wortman or any possible signs of his presence, including clothing or personal belongings. Hunters are specifically asked to review footage from their trail cameras for anything unusual.

Authorities are also seeking information about an older-model red van that may have been in the area around the time of Wortman’s disappearance. Anyone who spots such a vehicle is asked to document the license plate.

Information or tips should be reported immediately to the NJSP Missing Persons Unit at (609) 256-1190 or Missingpinformation@njsp.gov
