A New Jersey native is one of the 3 American servicemen who were killed when a drone attacked their base in Jordan on Sunday.
Sergeant William Rivers, 46, a resident of Willingboro, NJ, was killed in the attack, along with Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Georgia, and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Georgia.
“The loss of Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett has left an indelible mark on the United States Army Reserve. These Citizen-Soldiers died in service to their country on January 28, 2024, in Jordan,” Lt. Gen. Jody Daniels, Chief of Army Reserve and Commanding General U.S. Army Reserve Command said in a statement. “On behalf of the Army Reserve, I share in the sorrow felt by their friends, family, and loved ones. Their service and sacrifice will not be forgotten, and we are committed to supporting those left behind in the wake of this tragedy.”
Gov. Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy also expressed anguish at Rivers’ passing.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sergeant William Rivers of Willingboro, who was among three U.S. soldiers killed in the terrorist attack in Jordan this weekend. As parents, Tammy and I send our heartfelt sympathies to all three families who now face the unimaginable pain of losing a cherished loved one. As Americans, we share our gratitude for the soldiers’ bravery and sacrifice, and for the courage of every servicemember fighting terrorism at home and abroad, to whom we owe a debt we can never repay.
“I will sign an executive order later this week lowering our flags to half-staff in Sergeant William Rivers’ honor.”
