The New Jersey Department of Health on Wednesday issued a directive allowing anyone six months and older to receive a COVID-19 vaccine for the 2025–26 respiratory illness season.
A separate standing order authorizes pharmacists to administer the shots without a prescription to individuals ages 3 and up. Children younger than 3 can be vaccinated through their health care providers.
The move comes as COVID-19 cases rise nationwide and after federal regulators limited vaccine eligibility to people 65 and older or with certain health conditions. State officials said the directive is intended to remove barriers and ensure broad access before the fall and winter virus season.
The guidance follows recommendations from groups including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Vaccines are expected to be available in some locations immediately and statewide in the coming weeks at primary care offices, pharmacies, community health centers and other providers.
