Governor Mikie Sherrill on Wednesday announced the launch of a pilot application process for New Jersey’s first public-facing Permitting Dashboard, marking her 100th day in office and a key step in a broader effort to streamline the state’s permitting system.
The pilot program will invite submissions from energy, commercial, and multi-family housing projects that have recently submitted—or are preparing to submit—permit applications to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Transportation, and Department of Community Affairs. Up to 10 projects will be randomly selected to participate, allowing them to track the progress of permits across multiple agencies through a single platform.
State officials said the dashboard is designed to improve transparency and coordination by giving applicants a centralized view of their permits, including status updates, next steps, and projected timelines. The pilot is intended to serve as a foundation for a larger system that could eventually be expanded statewide.
Applications for the pilot will remain open through May 21, with additional details available at Permits.NJ.Gov.
The dashboard is being developed through a partnership with the New Jersey Innovation Authority and multiple state agencies. Once fully implemented, it is expected to allow both applicants and the public to monitor permit activity across agencies in one place, with the goal of reducing delays, improving accountability, and accelerating project approvals.
The announcement follows a series of initiatives undertaken during the administration’s first 100 days aimed at modernizing the permitting process. These include the creation of a cross-agency Permitting Governing Council, the completion of detailed permit catalogs to identify inefficiencies, a proposed budget increase to expand staffing and processing capacity, and outreach to more than 350 members of the business community as part of a statewide engagement effort.
