Early voting opened today across New Jersey for the 2025 primary elections, giving registered Democrats and Republicans (and Unaffiliated voters) a chance to cast their ballots ahead of the June 4 Election Day. Voters will choose party nominees for Governor, State Assembly, and various county and local offices. In the 35th District, voters will also select a nominee to fill an unexpired State Senate term.
The state’s early voting period runs through Sunday, with polling centers open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday). Voters in line before closing time will be allowed to vote regardless of wait time. Residents may vote at any early voting site within their county of registration.
New Jersey primary elections are closed, meaning only registered party members may vote in their respective primaries. However, unaffiliated voters may declare a party at the polls to participate.
Those encountering voting issues—such as being told they must vote provisionally or being turned away—have the right to request assistance from the poll’s Super Poll Worker or appear before a Superior Court judge remotely. Voters may also call the ACLU Election Protection Hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE for support.
If you’ve recently moved or changed your party affiliation, be aware that errors at the MVC may affect your registration. First-time voters who registered by mail must show ID or vote provisionally and present ID within 48 hours to have their ballot counted.
Vote-by-mail ballots may be returned via secure drop box or mail. Mailed ballots must be postmarked by 8 p.m. on June 4 and received by June 10 to be counted. Voters can track their mail-in ballots online.
Anyone experiencing voter intimidation or discrimination may report incidents to the state’s voter assistance line at 877-NJVOTER or to the Division on Civil Rights. Soliciting voters or campaigning within 100 feet of polling places is a criminal offense.
