New Jersey Lands in Bottom Half of ‘Most Fun States’ Ranking

New Jersey may boast beaches and boardwalks, but a new national study suggests the Garden State still isn’t topping the charts when it comes to fun.

According to a new WalletHub report, New Jersey ranked 36th overall in the annual “Most Fun States in America” list. The state placed 34th in entertainment and recreation, and 41st in nightlife.

For longtime residents, the numbers may come as a surprise – or not, depending on what you consider “fun.”

Analysts noted that New Jersey’s relatively small size and proximity to major metropolitan centers may have influenced its ranking. Many residents turn to nearby New York City and Philadelphia for additional entertainment and nightlife options.

California topped WalletHub’s list as the nation’s most fun state, while West Virginia finished last.
