New Jersey Increasing Police Presence at Jewish Sites Following Washington, D.C. Murders

In response to the targeted killings of two Jewish individuals outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin has directed law enforcement across the state to increase patrols around sensitive locations, including synagogues, Jewish schools, and cultural centers.

While there is no specific threat currently facing New Jersey, Platkin said the move is being taken “out of an abundance of caution” following what he described as “senseless and horrific murders” in the nation’s capital.

“No one should feel unsafe because of how they worship,” Platkin said in a public statement. “In New Jersey, we will continue to stand up to hate and condemn all forms of antisemitism wherever we find them.”

Platkin urged residents to remain alert and report any suspected acts of bias or antisemitism to local law enforcement or through the NJ Office of the Attorney General’s bias reporting system. Reports can be submitted online at bias.njcivilrights.gov or by calling 800-277-BIAS.
