New Jersey GOP Continues To Narrow Voter Registration Gap, Gaining Thousands Of More Voters

New Jersey Republicans have made further gains in voter registration, continuing a trend that has narrowed the Democratic Party’s long-standing advantage in the state.

According to the latest monthly update, Republicans netted 3,029 additional voters in August, bringing their total net gains since November 2024 to nearly 44,000. While Democrats still maintain a sizable lead, with Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 margin of victory in New Jersey standing at roughly 252,500 votes, the shift represents steady momentum for the GOP heading into the 2025 gubernatorial race.

The Republican Party has been actively working to close the registration gap in recent years, with particular emphasis on suburban and exurban counties where voter enrollment trends have shown more fluidity. The gains come as Jack Ciattarelli, the GOP nominee, steams ahead with his bid for the governorship following his narrow loss to Gov. Phil Murphy in 2021.

Political analysts caution, however, that registration numbers do not always translate directly into voter turnout. Democrats continue to hold a significant numerical edge statewide, particularly in urban strongholds. Still, Republicans point to the steady month-over-month increases as evidence of shifting political winds in New Jersey, a state long considered reliably Democratic in national contests.
