Customers served by New Jersey American Water are being advised of a temporary change in the company’s water treatment process as part of routine system maintenance.
From June 22 through June 26, the utility will temporarily switch its disinfectant treatment to free chlorine, a stronger form of chlorine that does not contain ammonia. The treatment change is commonly used during water main and fire hydrant flushing programs to help maintain water quality throughout the distribution system.
During this period, some customers may notice a stronger chlorine taste or odor in their water. Company officials emphasized that there is no cause for concern, noting that the change is temporary and is part of normal maintenance operations.
Residents who rely on purified or specially filtered water for medical or healthcare needs are encouraged to consult their healthcare providers with any questions regarding the temporary treatment adjustment.
