At approximately 8:30 PM on Friday, police, EMS, and fire units were dispatched to the intersection of Adams Avenue and Fischer Boulvard in Toms River for a reported motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle into a home.
The initial investigation revealed Steven Lecates, 23, of Florence NJ, was traveling east on Adams when he failed to yield at the stop sign and crashed into a vehicle that was travelling north on Fischer Boulvard. After impact, Lecates’ vehicle hit several large decorative stones on the front yard of a house on the comer, subsequently pushing one into the residence before coming to rest.
The homeowners were home at the time, but did not sustain any injuries. The female passalenger in Lecates vehicle had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of Toms River Fire Companies. She suffered injuries to her legs and abdomen and was flown to Jersey Shore Medical University for treatment.
An Inspector from the Toms River Building Department responded to the scene to ensure the home was structurely safe.
Lecates received citations for careless driving, disregard of a stop sign, and failure to possess an insurance card.
The accident remains under investigation.
