Murphy on Return of Mask Mandates: “Never Say Never”

In response to Philadelphia reinstating mask mandates across the city, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said “never say never” about a potential return of mask mandates in the Garden State.

“You never say never,” Murphy told News 12 New Jersey. “You can’t because this thing humbles you. Every time you think you’ve got it figured out, it takes a turn you don’t expect. Usually a negative one. But I was surprised by Philadelphia.”

“We’re nowhere near the levels we were at and I don’t anticipate — I’ll say it even more strongly — I’d be shocked if we put a mandate like that in place in New Jersey,” he added.

Covid-19 cases have been gradually rising in New Jersey and the east coast of the U.S. with most cases being attributed to BA.2, a subvariant of omicron.
