Early Thursday morning, members of the Manchester Township Police Department and Manchester Township EMS responded the State Highway 70, just west of the intersection of County Route 571 (Ridgeway Rd.), near the entrance to the Colby Commons shopping center for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcyclist and a minivan.
Upon arrival, Officers encountered a Geoffrey Hawkins, age 54 of Brick NJ, laying in the roadway with several injuries to include a head injury. Mr. Hawkins was operating a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle east bound on State Highway 70 prior to the crash. He was subsequently transported to Community Medical Center by Manchester EMS for further treatment of his injuries. Mr. Hawkins was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
A 2008 Chrysler Town & Country, operated by Collin Boyle, age 36 of Manchester NJ, was also located at the crash. The Chrysler was traveling west bound on State Highway 70 prior to the crash. Mr. Boyle refused medical treatment at the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that as the motorcycle was traveling east on State Highway 70, the Chrysler, being operated by Mr. Boyle, attempted to turn left in front of the motorcycle to gain entrance into the Colby Commons shopping center.
Both vehicles had to be towed from the area by Freedom Towing.
This incident is still under investigation by Sgt. Paul Bachovchin of the Traffic Safety Section with the assistance of Patrol.
