Motorcyclist Airlifted After Striking Deer In Manchester

On Thursday, May 25, 2023, at approximately 7:41 pm, members of the Manchester Township Police responded to the area of the Route 539 and Harry Wright Boulevard, in the Whiting section of the Township, for the report of a motorcycle collision with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located a heavily damaged black 2021 Suzuki GSXR 750 motorcycle leaning against a utility pole and a male occupant laying several hundred feet away with injuries.

The investigation revealed that the operator of the motorcycle was traveling north on Route 539 when three deer entered the roadway from the west causing impact with the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was ejected and the motorcycle slid for several hundred feet, sheering off the base of a traffic sign, until finally coming to rest against the base of a utility pole. The driver of the Suzuki, 18 year old Jose Vergara Suarez of Manchester, was wearing a DOT helmet and transported by medevac helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ for treatment for internal injuries. Suarez was later discharged from the hospital and the deer were located and deceased as a result of the impact.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, Whiting Volunteer Fire Police, Manchester Emergency Medical Services, and Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson. The crash remains under investigation by Sergeant Ian Bole of the Manchester Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
