Former Lakewood Board of Education member Moshe Raitzik has a new title in town: Fire Commissioner, after defeating Eli Berger and Larry Loigman in a close race for the position.
In an op-ed on Lakewood Alerts prior to the election, Raitzik wrote:
In the past, Lakewood voters had the opportunity to approve or reject the fire district’s annual budget. But since fire elections were moved from February to November, that public oversight has disappeared. It’s time to restore transparency and open communication between the fire department and the residents it serves.
As a former member of the Planning Board and a current member of the Board of Education, I’ve always spoken up when things didn’t look right—and I’ve always welcomed public input. As a talmid in Beth Medrash Govoha and a teacher in a local yeshiva, I see firsthand how our community is growing rapidly and how vital safety and fiscal responsibility are to our future.
Lakewood has a bright future ahead—one built on accountability, safety, and community partnership. Every vote counts in this race, so please make a plan to vote.

🥳🥳
Mazel tov to Rabbi Moshe Raitzik, I am sure he will do a fantastic job!
Our fire Department is running with very low manpower, I’m sure you will address that appropriately.
