Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on March 28, 2023, the body of John Applegate, 32, of Beachwood, was discovered in an area of water between Lakehurst Road and Route 37 in Toms River. Mr. Applegate had been missing since March 24, 2023; his body was located by a family friend who had volunteered to assist with the search. The decedent was transported to Community Medical Center pending a post-mortem examination.
Prosecutor Billhimer acknowledges the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Toms River Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, and the many volunteers who participated in the search for Mr. Applegate.
