Mike Reina Ineligible To Become Jackson’s Public Safety Director

Rumors have spread across social media in recent days claiming that Jackson Mayor Mike Reina plans to be appointed Public Safety Director, with Councilwoman Jennifer Kuhn succeeding him in his position as mayor.

The rumors further alleged that these planned move was to line Reina’s pockets with a salary upwards of $200,000 a year while simultaneously defanging the police department.

However, under the Jackson Council’s newly amended ordinance establishing the Director of Public Safety position, Reina will not be qualified to accept it. The amended ordinance states that the individual appointed to the position must have 20 years of law enforcement experience as a police officer and have, at minimum, attained the rank of sergeant.

As such, Reina is Ineligible for the position, thus stamping out the rumors. It is not yet known who, if anyone, the Council is considering for the position, assuming the ordinance becomes law.
