Mayor Coles: Many Complaints About Illegal Fireworks Exploding Over Lakewood

With the Fourth of July approaching, we have already started to see a large increase in the use of fireworks, both legal & illegal.

I am just asking everyone to be extremely careful with all fireworks and to please stay with the products you can buy legally in many stores.

I have been receiving a lot of calls from folks complaining about fireworks exploding late at night. Many have young children who are scared by the noise & have trouble getting back to sleep. I can attest to my pets having the same reaction. Many nights I must coax our younger dog out from behind the couch, where she takes refuge from the noise.

I enjoy Fireworks as much as the next person. I am asking everyone to be considerate of their neighbors, both 2 legged and 4 legged, and refrain from using any fireworks which generate loud bangs. The ones which make the loudest noises are also the most dangerous. Please refrain from using these and be extremely careful with any that you do use.

For those of us who are content to sit back and watch a great Fireworks Display, I hope to see you out by the lake on July 3rd.

Sincerely,

Mayor Ray Coles
