Manchester Police Save Tow Truck Driver’s Life at Scene of Accident

Manchester police officers saved the life of a man involved in a serious accident at the corner of Beacon Street and Ridgeway Boulevard.

Manchester police say that they responded to reports of an accident on March 10th at the intersection, with officers arriving on scene finding two vehicles with extensive damage.

Neither driver was seriously injured, though one was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Following the accident, Freedom Towing was contacted to clear the vehicles from the scene. As the cars were being removed, a tow truck driver collapsed. Officers rushed over to the man and quickly determined that he had gone into cardiac arrest. They initiated CPR and deployed a defibrillator.

Manchester EMS was then called in and took over treatment of the man, identified as John Macchia, 61, of Bayville.

Mr. Macchia was transported to Community Medical Center for further treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
