An 86-year-old Manchester man was rescued by police early Sunday morning after his vehicle plunged into a water hazard near a golf course and began sinking.
Manchester Township Police said officers responded at approximately 4:52 a.m. to Renaissance at Manchester, near Halstead Drive and Esplanade Drive, following reports of a vehicle slowly becoming submerged in a water hazard.
When officers arrived, they found George Migner, 86, calling for help as his black 2024 Nissan Altima continued to sink. Officer Sean Rembach entered the water and swam toward the vehicle, while Officer Donald Miller used a water rescue throw bag to help guide Migner safely out of the vehicle and back to shore.
The vehicle eventually became completely submerged after Migner was rescued. Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company and the Whiting Fire Water Rescue and Recovery Team responded to assist.
Migner told police he had been attempting to perform a K-turn when he accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake while putting the vehicle in reverse, sending the car over an embankment and into the water.
Manchester EMS treated and evaluated Migner at the scene for a minor injury.
Manchester Township Police thanked the responding officers, Manchester EMS, Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company, and the Whiting Fire Water Rescue and Recovery Team for their coordinated response.
