The Manchester Township Police Department marked a series of promotions, transfers, and a new hire during a ceremony held April 15, attended by Mayor Joseph Hankins, Township Council members, police leadership, and the officers’ families.
Detective Michael Steffen was promoted to sergeant, becoming the first to take the oath of office following remarks by Chief Antonio Ellis. Steffen, a Stockton University graduate, joined the department in 2013 after serving with the Mercer County Park Rangers. Over his career, he has worked in both the Patrol Division and Investigations Bureau, including roles as a detective, SWAT operator, and specialized investigator. He has received more than 30 awards for service and lifesaving efforts.
The department also swore in Patrolman Anthony Irizarry, who previously served with the Galloway Township Police Department. A summa cum laude graduate of Ocean County College, Irizarry has earned multiple honors, including two Life Saving Awards and Rookie of the Year. He will now begin field training with Manchester Township.
Two officers were reassigned to the Investigations Bureau. Sergeant Joseph Fastige was transferred into the role of detective sergeant. Fastige, who began his career in Seaside Heights in 2008 and joined Manchester in 2011, has worked in patrol, narcotics enforcement, and investigations. He holds a master’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and has received more than 20 departmental awards.
Patrolman Nicholas Greenwood was also transferred to serve as a detective. Greenwood joined the department in 2013 and became a full-time officer in 2015. He has held specialized roles including SWAT operator and firearms instructor, and has received more than 15 honors, including the Medal of Honor and Silver Medal of Valor.
Chief Ellis said the personnel changes were made to maintain staffing levels following recent retirements and promotions, and thanked township officials for their continued support of the department.
