This past Tuesday night, Manchester Police responded to a social media scare after a Snapchat story alleging vague school threats began circulating in the community. At 8:06 p.m., police were contacted about the post, which sparked concerns among local residents.
Following a thorough investigation, it was determined that the Snapchat post was not aimed at Manchester Township Schools. The original post originated from an individual out of state who has no connection to the school district. The post had been re-shared multiple times, ultimately reaching a Manchester Township student who reposted it out of concern.
The out-of-state agency where the original poster resides was notified, and law enforcement in that area took appropriate action.
In close collaboration with the Manchester Township School District, police officials communicated the findings of their investigation. Parents received an email from the school district, reassuring them that no credible threats had been made against any local schools.
Police are urging community members not to share unverified social media posts alleging school threats. They note that there has been a disturbing nationwide trend of vague, unsubstantiated threats spreading on platforms like TikTok and Snapchat. Officials stress the importance of reporting any concerning posts directly to law enforcement, rather than resharing them and causing unnecessary alarm.
