Manchester Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Attempted Murder of His Own Mother

A Manchester Township man has been sentenced to a decade in state prison after admitting to a violent assault on his elderly mother.

Joseph Cavallaro, 45, was sentenced April 23 by Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison following his guilty plea to attempted murder. Under the state’s No Early Release Act (NERA), Cavallaro must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Cavallaro entered his guilty plea on January 30 before Judge Ryan.

The charges stem from an incident on June 27, 2025, at approximately 12:15 p.m., when Manchester Township police officers responded to the Pine Acres Manor Mobile Home Community for a report of a woman in distress inside a residence. Upon entering the home, officers found a 71-year-old woman with severe injuries to her face and body.

The victim was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she was treated for multiple injuries and later released.

An investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and the Manchester Township Police Department Detective Bureau determined that the victim was Cavallaro’s mother. Authorities said the two became involved in an argument that escalated into a physical attack.

Prosecutors said Cavallaro assaulted the victim in her home, causing her to lose consciousness and sustain a concussion, fractured ribs, a fractured skull, and multiple facial fractures.

Cavallaro was taken into custody the same day without incident and has remained lodged in the Ocean County Jail since his arrest.

  1. Shud have got life with no parole! You only get one true mother in your life! Your mother brings you into this world, a sibling has no right to decide when she leaves this world!
