A Manchester man has been charged with attempted murder and multiple weapons offenses after allegedly assaulting his 71-year-old mother in their home on Friday, authorities announced.
According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, Joseph Cavallaro, 44, of Manchester, faces charges of Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in connection with the incident, which occurred on June 27 at approximately 12:15 p.m.
Manchester Township Police responded to the Pine Acres Manor Mobile Home Community after receiving a report of a female in distress. Officers arriving at the scene found the victim with apparent injuries to her face and body. She was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she was reported to be in critical but stable condition.
Investigators determined the victim was Cavallaro’s mother and that she had been beaten with a cane. Cavallaro was taken into custody at the scene but subsequently experienced a medical episode and was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he is listed in stable condition.
Cavallaro is expected to be lodged in the Ocean County Jail following his release from the hospital, pending a detention hearing.
