Man Shot By Mysterious Assailant In West Gate; Police Investigating

The Lakewood Police Department is investigating after receiving a report that a man was shot by an unknown assailant in Lakewood’s West Gate neighborhood on Sunday night.

The victim, a 27-year-old Asbury Park resident, said he was driving to Toms River when he became lost and entered West Gate, when “an unknown suspect approached his vehicle and fired at least one round into his car, striking him in both arms,” according to a police statement.

The victim and suspect both fled, with the former driving himself to Ocean Medical Center in Brick for treatment. Hospital staff contacted Lakewood police, who are now investigating.
