Man Killed in Motorcycle Mishap on Route 37 in Toms River

A young man practicing riding a motorcycle was killed after a tragic mishap on Route 37 in Toms River.

Toms River police say they received a call of a motor vehicle accident at around 7:30 pm Sunday evening. Upon arrival, they discovered that Nicholas Cacciapaglia, 24, of Toms River, was learning to ride a Harley motorcycle in the parking lot of Ocean County Power Sports when he lost control and struck a curb and entered Route 37. Once on Route 37, the bike went down and Mr. Cacciapaglia slid into the center lane where he was hit by a passing vehicle driven by Domenic Maruca, 62 of Toms River. Mr. Cacciapaglia was pronounced deceased at the scene.

There were no signs of impairment, and no summons were issued. The accident remains under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Ryan Fitzgerald.
