A dispute at Six Flags Great Adventure escalated into a violent confrontation with police, ending in the arrest of a Jackson man on multiple charges, authorities said.
According to the Jackson Township Police Department, the amusement park’s security detail were dispatched to the main gate for a reported argument between a man and a woman, and called in police for assistance.
Police say they first encountered a 21-year-old man who told them he had been arguing with his 19-year-old partner, who had returned to his vehicle. When officers accompanied him to the car, the woman was gone. Park staff later located her near the employee entrance.
Six Flags security banned both individuals from the property. The woman complied and left without incident. The man, however, refused to leave, telling officers he would not accept the ban.
Officers reportedly gave him multiple warnings to exit the premises before informing him he would be arrested for criminal trespass. When he still refused, police opened his car door and ordered him out.
A struggle broke out as officers tried to remove the man. Police say he kicked at them and, after being pulled from the vehicle, hurled his cellphone into an officer’s face.
The man was taken into custody, handcuffed, and transported to Jackson Police Headquarters, where he was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, obstruction, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and criminal trespass. He was later transferred to the Ocean County Jail.
