After nearly two months of closures, motorists in Jackson will see relief as several major roads are scheduled to reopen on Thursday, September 4, township officials announced.
Cedar Swamp Road, Freehold Road, and Jackson Mills Road will all reopen to traffic following a near 60-day shutdown. While the roads will once again be passable and safe for drivers, officials caution that construction work in the area is far from complete.
The prolonged closure stemmed from unanticipated delays by utility companies tasked with relocating structures in the project zone. With that phase now advanced, the roads can reopen, though crews will remain active in the coming weeks.
According to the township, work still ahead includes moving utility poles, installing permanent traffic signals, constructing a 550-foot retaining wall on the south side of Cedar Swamp Road, and completing final paving operations to accommodate a new traffic pattern in the area.
Officials urged drivers to remain alert while traveling through the reopened corridors. The posted work zone speed limit is 35 mph, and drivers are advised to be mindful of construction crews working along the roadside.
“We thank residents for their cooperation with this extensive project,” township officials said in a statement, adding that the improvements will significantly enhance safety and traffic flow once completed.
