Lakewood has been left in the dark—literally—time and time again. Power outages have become a way of life, not just in the summer heat but now in the freezing cold of winter. Each time, we’re met with the same hollow promises and stale excuses.
How many times will we hear “We’ll hold JCP&L accountable” before we admit the truth? Nothing ever changes.
We’re fed nonsense about vague “technical difficulties,” but here are the hard facts:
- We pay exorbitant electric bills. Lakewood’s rates are no bargain, yet our town experiences more outages than anywhere else in New Jersey.
- Leadership is failing us. At every level—local, county, state—those in charge are asleep at the wheel.
Where are the officials we elected to fight for us?
Back in July, Lakewood Alerts reported that askanim, along with Assemblyman Avi Schnall, pushed for JCP&L to upgrade their crumbling infrastructure. Schnall, Assemblyman Kean, and Senator Bob Singer even called for legislative hearings.
And since then? Crickets.
Now it’s winter. No ACs running, no strain on the grid—and yet, tens of thousands of homes lost power during Chanukah. Families were plunged into darkness mid-celebration. Stores shut down. Traffic lights went out, endangering lives.
This is beyond unacceptable.
Lakewood, it’s time to rise up. Press releases and finger-pointing won’t cut it anymore. We demand real accountability, concrete action, and meaningful results.
The days of JCP&L’s excuses and our leaders’ complacency must end—now.
Sincerely,
Yossi P.

And please don’t forget the insane amount of streetlights which are out. I have reported them again and again and nothing is done
Don’t hold your breath…
lazer scheiner should just take control of the issues. he always gets things done very fast.
What a joke. 100 people running this town. No one can get their act together.
lets just say it. the same people are running this town for 25 years AND THEY NEED TO GO.
PERIOD.
IT’S TIME TO GO. NOW
This just takes the cake. Half the town is still out of power. I’ve never seen such a corrupt, incompetent pathetic groups of lacky’s in my entire life.
It’s really time to clean this place up.
DRAIN THE SWAMP. TERM LIMITS NOW
The incompetence and total lack of interest from JCP&L and BPU leadership is outrageous! Years of ignoring the needs of our town and communities, years of constant blackouts, years of waiting for months to get electric connected for new homes, years of not providing enough power on the grid for new businesses and projects, years of ignoring burnt out streetlights.
It is high time we stand up for our basic rights as a community and town!
Every single JCP&L customer that suffered from their incompetence should send an email to leadership requesting immediate change!

LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD!
Maybe time for federal government to step in and open investigations to all the utilities that fail us in NJ.
