Bussing services across the Lakewood area are scheduled to operate on a regular schedule Wednesday, following two consecutive days of weather-related cancellations.
The Lakewood Student Transportation Authority (LSTA) announced that all routes will run as normal, though officials cautioned that minor delays are likely due to lingering snow and road conditions.
All surrounding school districts will operate on a 90-minute delay, with the exception of Lakewood Public Schools, which will follow its regular start time. LSTA officials expressed appreciation to Superintendent Laura Winters for coordinating efforts to ensure schedules aligned smoothly.
While full service is expected, a minimal number of route disruptions may occur because of staffing constraints and road conditions. Any affected route information will be shared with schools by transportation vendors Tuesday evening, and schools will communicate directly with families as needed.
Under typical circumstances during weather events, LSTA’s standard procedure is to run boys’ routes on a regular schedule while delaying girls’ routes by 90 minutes. However, following two days of cancellations, officials expanded operations beyond normal practice in order to restore full service. The authority utilized substitute drivers, weekend drivers, additional shifts, and seasonal drivers to make Wednesday’s schedule possible.
Officials noted that while these measures allow for service to resume, the approach is not sustainable over the long term.
With snow still on the ground in many areas, drivers may require additional time to navigate safely. Families are encouraged to plan accordingly and expect possible delays.
