Two men, including a Jackson resident, were arrested after police recovered a loaded AR-15-style “ghost gun” during a traffic stop on I-195 in Wall Township, authorities said.
The incident unfolded shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, when Wall Township Police stopped a vehicle on I-195 for a traffic violation.
During the investigation, officers determined that front-seat passenger Jarrone Perry, 47, of Jackson, had an active warrant issued by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. Perry was taken into custody without incident.
As the investigation continued, a Brick Township Police K-9 unit responded to assist. K-9 Rebel conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted officers to the possible presence of narcotics or other contraband.
Police subsequently searched the vehicle and recovered a loaded AR-15-style privately manufactured firearm, commonly referred to as a “ghost gun.”
Perry and the driver, Christopher Ojeda Jr., 18, of Toms River, were both arrested and charged with possession of an unserialized firearm, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of an assault firearm, unlawful possession of a rifle, and unlawful possession of a loaded firearm.
Perry was additionally charged with being a certain person prohibited from possessing weapons.
Both men were processed and transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
Does not sound like they had a warrant to search that vehicle and this case would likely get tossed right out of court!
