An early morning lightning strike sparked a fire in a gas line near the intersection of 5th and Madison, forcing several homes to be evacuated. The strike also knocked out power for some in the area, including several traffic lights.
The fire department and gas company quickly responded to the area, with crews shutting off the gas lines until the flames could be properly extinguished.
