Leading Rabbanim Praise The Shopper for Upholding Daas Torah in Face of Political Pressure

A group of leading Roshei Yeshiva and rabbanim have issued a commendation lauding The Shopper magazine and its publisher, Rabbi Yaakov Wenger, for taking a principled stand on behalf of Daas Torah regarding voting in the recent World Zionist Organization (WZO) elections.

At the heart of the matter was The Shopper’s decision to publish a statement, based on the guidance of leading gedolim, urging the public not to vote in the elections. The message triggered major backlash from individuals and groups who viewed it as provocative or politically damaging.

But that backlash has now been met with an outpouring of support from gedolim. The proclamation features a letter from Harav Aharon Feldman, Rosh Yeshiva of Ner Yisrael in Baltimore, who writes:

“Permit me to commend you for your strong stand in the face of threats to your magazine, The Shopper, to support Daas Torah that no one should vote for Eretz Hakodesh… May Hakadosh Boruch Hu give you berachos for parnossah, health and success in all your endeavors.”

His letter is joined by over a dozen handwritten endorsements from noted rabbanim, including: HaRav Elya Ber Wachtfogel, Harav Shlomo Miller, Harav Yaakov Shraga Horowitz, Harav Hillel David, Harav Yitzchak Abba Lichtenstein, and BMG’s roshei yeshiva – Harav Malkiel Kotler, Harav Yeruchem Olshin, Harav Dovid Schustal, and Harav Yisroel Neuman.

    Looserss!!!!!!!!!

  2. I’m so confused. I thought the rabbonim had ended up retracting their statements not to vote in the WZO elections, that they had been misled! My husband and I got emails from our shul and a number of other frum sources urging us to vote, telling us the rabbonim had been tricked by the parties in the WZO who are not aligned with Torah values and didn’t want frum Jews voting for Eretz Hakodesh, and vote we did. And because of the funding that Eretz Hakodesh was allotted due to the large number of votes they received, we were notified by our daughter’s seminary that we’d be receiving a tuition refund of $1200 because of a grant from Eretz Hakodesh! How can you be against that?

    • That was a different political thing. That had nothing to do with the Rabbonim’s statements on the matter and they did not retract.

  3. Not everything can just go unanswered even though we went through a war,
the Lakewood shopper stood up for kavod hatorah and lost thousands of dollars because of that and for that they deserve to get a commendation from our gedolim
And no the Gedolim did not retract their stance against wzo the emails that they retracted was just another advertising scheme on the part of eretz hakodesh.
