Veteran Lakewood Fire Commissioner Larry S. Loigman has announced his campaign for re-election to the Lakewood Board of Fire Commissioners, seeking another three-year term.
Loigman officially filed his nominating petition with the Ocean County Board of Elections on July 27. The election will be held on November 3, with early voting scheduled to begin on October 24.
In announcing his candidacy, Loigman said his campaign will focus on maintaining fiscal responsibility while continuing to modernize the fire district. He said his priorities include identifying cost-saving measures, pursuing additional state and federal grant funding, and generating revenue through the sale of unneeded assets. He also emphasized continued support for the department’s volunteer firefighters and investment in the latest firefighting technology.
Loigman also voiced concern over what he described as the growing influence of politics within the fire district. As an example, he pointed to an earlier vote in which he said a proposal to accept a private donation for fire prevention programs was rejected by a commissioner for political reasons.
“I am gratified for the support of many prominent rabbeim and civic leaders as I seek another three-year term on the Board,” Loigman said. “The residents and businesspeople of Lakewood deserve a cost-effective fire department, and that is what my objective in serving as fire commissioner has always been.”
