Lakewood Township Municipal Utilities Authority will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing program on or around May 11, 2026, continuing through the end of August 2026.
Residents in areas where flushing is taking place may experience discoloration of water or a temporary decrease in water pressure, the utility said in a notice to customers.
Should discoloration occur, residents are advised to run their cold water later in the day until it clears. Those planning to replace their water filter should wait until after the flushing program is completed in their area.
“We apologize for any inconvenience, and we thank you for your understanding,” the utility said in the notice.
The annual flushing program is a routine maintenance procedure designed to clear sediment and other materials from the water distribution system’s pipes. The practice helps maintain water quality and system reliability throughout the township’s service area.
Residents seeking more details about the flushing program’s various phases and updates are directed to visit the Lakewood Township MUA website at https://www.lakewoodmua.com/flushing.php or call the office at (732) 363-4422, extension 4.
