Lakewood Township’s Department of Public Works and Code Enforcement Division distributed notices to residents this morning reminding homeowners of the regulations governing the placement and removal of garbage and recycling containers.
The June 17 notice emphasizes that township-issued green garbage cans and yellow recycling containers may not be placed at the curb before 6:00 p.m. on the day prior to a scheduled pickup and must be removed from the curb and returned to the property by 6:00 p.m. on collection day.
According to the township, containers left in the roadway can create several problems, including reducing available street parking, obstructing traffic and pedestrian movement, interfering with public works operations such as street sweeping and road maintenance, and creating hazards during severe weather when containers can tip over or blow into traffic.
The notice states that violations may result in formal warnings and citations under Lakewood’s municipal code. The township also outlined several code sections addressing containers placed out too early or left curbside after collection day.
Officials encouraged residents experiencing difficulties managing their collection schedules to contact the Lakewood Public Works Department for assistance and guidance. The township said the regulations are intended to keep roadways clear and maintain neighborhood safety throughout the community.
The letter concludes by thanking residents for their cooperation in helping keep Lakewood clean and safe.
