Lakewood Township Partners with Fulfill and LRRC to Distribute Free Groceries to 1,000 Families

In response to ongoing delays and uncertainty regarding Federal funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Lakewood Township collaborated with regional food bank Fulfill and the Lakewood Resource and Referral Center (LRRC) to provide food assistance to 1,000 families. The drive-through distribution event took place last Wednesday evening at ShoreTown Ballpark Stadium in Lakewood.

Each pre-registered household received boxes containing essential food items such as produce, chicken, eggs, and shelf-stable pantry products. The distribution aimed to address the growing need for food security in the community, particularly as federal benefits remain in flux.

Despite chilly temperatures, dozens of staff members and volunteers worked efficiently to load food boxes into vehicles. Lakewood Township personnel managed traffic control and logistics, ensuring the event proceeded in an orderly and safe manner. Volunteers from Fulfill and OceanFirst’s WaveMakers team spent hours assisting families, handling the heavy packages with precision and care.
