Lakewood, Toms River, Jackson, and Howell Receive State Funding for Road Improvements

The New Jersey Department of Transportation has allocated significant municipal aid for road improvement projects in Lakewood, Toms River, Jackson, and Howell, as part of the FY2026 Municipal Aid Grants.

The competitive Municipal Aid grant program attracted 591 applications from 537 different municipalities with a total of $363 million requested. Project applications were evaluated and rated on their merits by NJDOT staff and reviewed by an independent panel of New Jersey municipal engineers. Every municipality that applied for funding received a grant, totaling $150 million.

Lakewood Township is set to receive $488,947 for improvements to E. 7th Street. This grant will help enhance roadway preservation and is part of the ongoing effort to improve infrastructure in rapidly growing areas of Ocean County.

Toms River Township will benefit from a $403,992 grant designated for the improvements to Charles Drive and Edken Avenue, which will focus on enhancing road conditions and preserving the quality of these key local streets.

Jackson Township is being allocated $437,658 for improvements to Lakehurst Avenue (Phase I), ensuring better connectivity and safety for residents and travelers in the area.

Howell Township will receive $202,867 for roadway preservation work on Howell Road, contributing to the overall improvement of local infrastructure.
