Under a clear October sky, more than 30 members of Team “Lakewood Squad” joined hundreds of participants at Adventure Crossing in Jackson for the 2025 Komen New Jersey More Than Pink Walk on Sunday, October 5.
The event, organized by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, is part of a nationwide series of walkathons raising funds for breast cancer research and patient support. The organization has invested more than $1.1 billion toward finding a cure and advancing treatment.
Lakewood Township employees exceeded their fundraising goal of $3,000, collecting a total of $4,789 and earning a spot as the #5 top fundraising company for the event. The total included a $2,500 contribution from the Lakewood Police Benevolent Association.
Mayor Ray Coles, who participated in the walk, noted the personal significance of the cause. A cancer survivor himself, Coles has seen multiple family members and friends battle the disease.
“Through this groundbreaking team effort, our Township employees are supporting breast cancer awareness and research while assisting patients and families,” Coles said. “They make all of Lakewood enormously proud.”
Lakewood Township Chief Operating Officer and Human Resources Director Trish Komsa praised the team’s unity and commitment.
“We are incredibly proud of our employees who participated in the Susan G. Komen walk on Sunday,” Komsa said. “Their dedication to supporting breast cancer awareness and research reflects the heart of our Township’s values — community, compassion, and commitment.”
