Lakewood Shortcuts Get Safety Boosts, Thanks to DPW and Local Advocacy

The age-old neighborhood “shortcut” in two busy Lakewood developments got important facelifts and safety boosts thanks to the Lakewood Department of Public Works (DPW).

The paths connecting Isabella Drive and Vilna Lane in the Locust Street area; and the path connecting Payne Avenue and Prospect Square in the Massachusetts Avenue area; have for long been used by area residents. However, the rough, impromptu footpath conditions were both uncomfortable and potentially unsafe, especially during rough weather.

Area residents reached out to Lakewood Township officials for help. Township Engineer Tony Poklasny; Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Phil Roux; and other officials; immediately got to work. DPW crews professionally laid asphalt and Crushed Stone Dust pathways in these locations, which are aesthetically pleasing and, most importantly, safer and more comfortable.

“Even in a very large Town like Lakewood, no space is too small for it to be able to affect the quality of life of our residents,” says Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein. “I would like to thank our DPW and other officials for always being responsive to residents’ needs and getting things done in an efficient, professional manner.”
