The Lakewood Police Department is set to host a Stop the Bleed training session aimed at equipping community members with life-saving skills. The free class, designed specifically for houses of worship, such as shuls, will take place on Wednesday, January 8, at 7:00 PM at the Lakewood Office of Emergency Management, located at 1555 Pine Street, Lakewood, NJ 08701.
The Stop the Bleed initiative focuses on teaching participants how to respond quickly and effectively to bleeding emergencies, potentially saving lives before professional medical help arrives. The importance of such training has grown as communities seek to enhance safety and preparedness in public spaces, including places of worship.
Attendees will receive hands-on instruction in bleeding control techniques, including how to apply tourniquets, pack wounds, and use direct pressure to stop bleeding.
The event is free, but participants are required to RSVP by January 6, 2025. Interested individuals can secure their spot by emailing LCC@lakewoodpolicenj.com.
Light refreshments will be served during the event.
The initiative is supported by the NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.
