Lakewood Police Join Multi-State Seat Belt Safety Campaign Beginning May 11

The Lakewood Police Department joined regional law enforcement and traffic safety partners at a multi-state “Click It or Ticket” event held at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

The national Click It or Ticket campaign, running May 11 through May 31, aims to increase awareness about the importance of seat belt use and reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities. Lakewood officers participated in the kickoff event alongside partners from throughout the region.

“Lakewood officers were honored to stand alongside our partners, demonstrating a shared commitment to roadway safety across New Jersey and neighboring states,” the department said in a statement.

During the campaign period, motorists throughout the region can expect increased seat belt enforcement as law enforcement agencies work to encourage compliance with safety laws. The initiative targets both drivers and passengers who fail to wear seat belts.

Seat belt use remains one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injury and death in motor vehicle accidents. According to traffic safety data, seat belts reduce the risk of death for front-seat passengers by approximately 45 percent and serious injury by 50 percent.

The Lakewood Police Department urged all drivers and passengers to buckle up every trip, regardless of distance or speed.

“Safety is our priority,” the department emphasized. “We encourage all residents to make seat belt use a habit and help us keep our roadways safe.”
