Lakewood Police Department Marks Six Years Since Passing of Patrolman Nicklas Shimonovich

The Lakewood Police Department on Saturday marked six years since the passing of Patrolman Nicklas Shimonovich #392, remembering a dedicated officer whose service and legacy remain deeply felt within the department and community.

Shimonovich passed away on September 5, 2020. He joined the Lakewood Police Department in March 2018 and was known for his deep pride in being a police officer and his commitment to serving others.

For Shimonovich, law enforcement was more than a career. The department said wearing the badge was a calling and a responsibility that he embraced with pride.

He was also part of a longtime law enforcement family. Shimonovich was the son of Detective Lieutenant R. Shimonovich #271 and Detective Sergeant J. Shimonovich #272, the brother of Patrolman L. Shimonovich #442, and the nephew of Patrolman F. Rivera #294.

“Six years later, we continue to remember Nick — not only for the uniform he wore and the service he gave, but for the person he was and the place he will always hold in the hearts of those who knew and loved him,” the Lakewood Police Department said in a tribute.

The department added that while time continues to pass, Shimonovich’s memory, name and service remain an enduring part of the Lakewood Police family.

“Forever remembered. Forever missed. Never forgotten.”
