Lakewood Police Captain Tommy Langenberger Retires After 30 Years of Service

Captain Tommy Langenberger, a veteran of the Lakewood Police Department with more than 30 years of service, has retired from the force, the department announced this week.

Langenberger joined the department in August 1995 and rose through the ranks over three decades of policing in one of New Jersey’s fastest-growing municipalities. Throughout his career, he played a role in major operations, critical incidents, and departmental initiatives, earning a reputation for steady leadership and a commitment to public safety.

A graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy, Langenberger pursued advanced training in management and law enforcement techniques, an accomplishment reserved for select officers nationwide. The department noted that the achievement reflects his dedication to professional development and improving the agency.

Colleagues said his impact extended beyond emergency response and major cases. Known for both his command presence and his accessibility to residents, Langenberger served as a mentor to younger officers and a familiar face to community members.

As he enters retirement, the police department expressed appreciation for his long service and contributions to Lakewood’s growth and safety.
