The Lakewood Police Department has begun its annual Active Shooter response training and High-Risk Motor Vehicle Stop exercises.
According to the department, the training is designed to sharpen officers’ decision-making skills, improve coordination, and ensure preparedness during high-stress, life-threatening situations. The exercises emphasize teamwork, communication, and officer safety, while prioritizing the safety of Lakewood residents.
Police officials said the training incorporates realistic scenarios intended to reflect the challenges officers may face in real-world emergencies. Regular training, the department noted, is considered essential to maintaining readiness and professionalism amid an evolving public safety environment.
Police Chief Gregory Meyer said the department views ongoing training as a critical component of effective policing.
“Ongoing training is essential to ensuring our officers are prepared to respond decisively and professionally when our community needs us most,” Meyer said in a statement. “These exercises reinforce our commitment to readiness, safety, and protecting the lives of the people we serve.”
