The Lakewood Police Department has released an overnight road closure schedule tied to ongoing state Route 9 improvement work, with multiple full closures and side street shutdowns planned over the next two weeks.
According to Police Chief Greg Meyer, the closures are being implemented in coordination with the State Department of Transportation as crews continue major roadway improvements along the heavily traveled corridor.
Township officials said they urged the State to begin work as late in the evening as possible in an effort to reduce traffic disruption for residents and businesses. Under the current schedule, closures will begin at 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday nights, and at 8:30 p.m. on Fridays.
Motorists are being advised to plan ahead and expect detours, delays, and changing traffic patterns throughout the construction period.
The scheduled closures are as follows:
- Tuesday, May 26: Full closure on Route 9 from Oak Street to Route 70, with lane shifts from Prospect Street to Pine Street.
- Wednesday, May 27: Full closure on Route 9 from Oak Street to Pine Street, with lane shifts from Pine Street to Central Avenue.
- Thursday, May 28: Full closure on Route 9 from Pine Street to Route 88.
- Friday, May 29: James Street closure from Williams Street to Route 9, along with closures on side streets near the Central Avenue/Hurley Road area.
- Sunday, May 31: Various side street closures off Route 9 from Route 70 to Oak Street.
- Monday, June 1: Various side street closures off Route 9 from Route 70 to Oak Street.
- Tuesday, June 2: Various side street closures off Route 9 from Oak Street to Pine Street.
- Wednesday, June 3: Various side street closures off Route 9 from Oak Street to Pine Street.
- Thursday, June 4: Various side street closures off Route 9 from Pine Street to Central Avenue.
Officials said the schedule is subject to change depending on weather conditions and construction progress. Residents traveling through the Route 9 corridor during overnight hours are encouraged to allow additional travel time and use alternate routes where possible.
