As Lag Ba’Omer approaches, with celebrations set for the evening of May 4 through May 5, the Lakewood Fire Department and the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office are reminding residents that permits are required for all bonfires and must be obtained in advance.
Officials stressed that no bonfire may be held without a valid permit and full compliance with safety regulations. Applications are available through the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, either online or by contacting their office directly. All forms must be completed in full using typed entries; handwritten submissions will not be accepted.
Completed applications, along with the $54 permit fee, must be submitted at least 10 business days before the scheduled bonfire. Submissions can be made in person, by mail, or by email. Officials noted that late applications will not be considered under any circumstances.
To assist residents, applications can also be completed in person at Lakewood Fire Department headquarters, located at 733 Cedar Bridge Avenue, from Monday, April 27 through Friday, May 1, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Staff and computers will be available on-site to help ensure forms are properly completed.
Lakewood Township Committeeman and Emergency Services Liaison Meir Lichtenstein praised the coordination between agencies and urged public cooperation.
“These efforts, along with the public’s cooperation, will help ensure that the celebrations will be both safe and enjoyable for all,” Lichtenstein said.
Residents are encouraged to review all safety guidelines and submit their applications early to avoid delays as preparations for the annual Lag Ba’Omer bonfires get underway.
