A Lakewood man has been charged with Aggravated Arson after investigators determined a residential fire on Thursday had been deliberately set.
At approximately 4:45 p.m., Lakewood Township police and firefighters rushed to the Fairway Villas complex following reports of a structure fire. Responders arrived to find a pile of clothing smoldering alongside an air-conditioning condenser unit engulfed in flames. The blaze was quickly extinguished before it could spread further.
An extensive joint investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Arson Squad, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the Lakewood Police Detective Bureau, and the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office concluded that the fire had been intentionally set. Authorities determined that an open flame was used to ignite liquid at the southwest corner of the residence’s concrete patio.
Investigators identified Tysan Davis, 36, of Lakewood, as the individual responsible for sparking the fire. Davis was taken into custody at Lakewood Police Headquarters and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he is being held pending a detention hearing.
