Lakewood Leads New Jersey in Births for Fourth Consecutive Year, Jackson Sets New Record

Lakewood once again topped the list for the most births in New Jersey last year, according to newly released data from the New Jersey Department of Health compiled by Agudah NJ Director Shlomo Schorr. In 2024, the township recorded 5,420 births, marking the fourth consecutive year with more than 5,000 babies born in the fast-growing community.

Out of 101,357 babies born statewide, Lakewood accounted for 5.3% of the total. The township’s youthful demographics — with nearly half of its population under 18 — continue to drive high birth rates.

Neighboring Jackson Township also saw a dramatic surge in births, reflecting the migration of many young Lakewood families seeking more affordable housing options. Jackson reported a record 1,236 births in 2024, representing an increase of a whopping 167% compared to 2018.

  1. And this overpopulation is something to be excited about? Lakewood changing the demographics of Jackson, forcing existing Jackson residents out of the area, closing our schools to pay for their bussing to private schools. This change is not for the better.

    • No one is forcing anybody out of the area
      People sell their homes voluntarily
No one is forcing them to do that

  2. Gee shock. They get free condos, cars, clothes, private school, all while having 5plus kids.

    Nothing to see there.

The biggest story in NJ. and Lakewood receives a 200M no interest loan that will never be paid.

All while property tax payments disappear.

    No nothing to see here.

  3. Having all these children is nothing to be proud of especially since they are relying on taxpayers for support. Please someone enlighten me as to why all these kids are the taxpayers responsibility. It’s called get a job.
