Lakewood Housing Authority to Open Section 8 Mainstream Voucher Applications on May 19

The Lakewood Housing Authority will be accepting applications for its Section 8 “Mainstream” waiting list beginning on May 19, 2025, at 8am through June 2, 2025, at 2pm.

Mainstream vouchers are special purpose vouchers designated to assist non-elderly persons (age 18-61) with disabilities. The eligible household member (disabled and between the age of 18-61) can be anyone in the household and does not need to be the head of household on the application.

To qualify for the Mainstream program, the household must contain at least one family member that is BOTH disabled AND non-elderly (age 18-61). Do not apply if someone in the household does not meet both criteria as the application will be denied.

Pre-applications will be accepted online only on our website located at www.lakewoodha.org under the “Housing Applications” tab. Disabled persons may request a reasonable accommodation to assist them in the application process by contacting our office at 732-364-1300 during our normal business hours.

Eligible families MUST have one family member that is disabled AND between the ages of 18-61 with household income below the following income limits:

Preference will be provided as per section 4.6 of the Administrative Plan which is located on the LHA website at www.lakewoodha.org/documents/section8AdminPlan2025rev2.pdf

Following the application period, a lottery will be held to randomly select 50 applicants to be placed on the waiting list. If 50 applications are not received by June 2, 2025, the list will remain open until 50 applications are received.

The lottery will be conducted by the application software utilized to accept the applications. The Lakewood Housing Authority is not involved in the lottery selection process. Applications selected through the lottery will be placed on the waiting list in the order that they are selected by the lottery and ranked with the applicable preferences. All applications not selected in the lottery will be discarded.

Results of the application selection will be available on our website after the lottery process is conducted. Please note that only one application can be submitted per household, and duplicate applications will be denied/discarded. The head of household on the application must be at least 18 years or older to apply.
