Lakewood Forecast to Get Up to 6 Inches of Snow in First Storm of the Winter Season

Central New Jersey is expected to see its first measurable snowfall of the season this weekend, with a fast-moving clipper system forecast to bring several hours of wintry precipitation from Saturday night into Sunday morning. While forecasters do not anticipate major disruptions, light to moderate accumulation could create slippery roads and minor travel delays.

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Mount Holly projects 4-6 inches of snow across the Lakewood region.

Meteorologists note a small possibility of isolated higher totals if the storm’s track shifts, as well as a lower-end scenario where some areas receive less than an inch. AccuWeather, FOX Weather, and The Weather Channel all show similar expectations, even as their projected ranges vary slightly.

Snow is expected to begin between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday, intensify overnight, and taper off by mid-morning Sunday.

Local officials across Central Jersey are preparing. In Jackson, Mayor Jennifer Kuhn announced that the Department of Public Works began brining roadways Friday morning and will continue treating surfaces. She urged residents to remove vehicles from roadways ahead of the snowfall to ensure crews can salt and plow safely and efficiently. Officials in Lakewood, Toms River, Howell, and other nearby municipalities issued similar requests.

“As we prepare for a winter storm forecasted to bring a few inches of snow, I’d like to remind residents to take necessary precautions for a safe and efficient snow removal process,” Kuhn said, emphasizing that moving vehicles off the street will allow plow operators to reach curb lines and maintain safe travel corridors.

Jackson officials also highlighted recent investments in winter weather response, including the addition of more than a dozen new salt spreaders and plow trucks. The goal, they said, is to ensure emergency vehicles and commuters can travel as safely as possible during and after the storm.
